Domperidone Dosage
Starting dose: 10mg 3x/day
Double dose: 20mg 3x/day
Induced lactation dose (for adoptive/surrogate families): 20mg 4x/day, usually used in consultation with a physician and includes other medications and supplements.
Domperidone Weaning
CAUTION! Weaning too fast or stopping "cold turkey" can cause emotional dysregulation and agitation which can be severe especially if you have been on it for a long time (months) or at a higher dose!!! DO NOT RUN OUT OF DOMPERIDONE. SET ASIDE ENOUGH PILLS FOR WEANING AND START WEANING WHEN THAT IS ALL YOU HAVE LEFT, EVEN IF MORE IS IN THE MAIL!
Decrease by 10mg and stay at that dosage for 1 week.
For example: If you are taking 10mg 3x/day, then go to 10mg 2x/day for 1 week, then 10mg 1x/day for 1 week, then stop.
Quantity of Domperidone Required
10mg 3x/day for 1 month: 90 pills + 21 to wean = 111
10mg 3x/day for 3 months: 270 + 21 to wean = 300
20mg 3x/day for 1 month: 180 + 105 to wean = 300
20mg 3x/day for 3 months: 540 + 105 to wean = 645
20mg 4x/day for 3 months: 720 + 196 to wean = 950
20mg 4x/day for 6 months: 1440 + 196 to wean = 1636
Domperidone Sources
1) International ordering - Technically illegal and shipment may be seized by customs (anecdotally this is rare). Often involves bank account transfer for payment, which may seem unusual but is standard and will take at least 3 weeks to receive medication. Usually most costly option (e.g. $48/100 pills, $123/300 pills) as pharmacies charge more than it would cost there over the counter. In House Pharmacy is a popular source.
2) Purchasing in foreign country - Over the counter in Central/South America and much of Asia. Questionably legal to then bring the medication into the US, depending on multiple factors, please refer to CBP page: https://www.help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-1444?language=en_US
3) Receiving mailed medication from family or friends outside the US - Technically illegal and may be seized by customs. Usually cheapest option.
4) Obtaining "unused" medication from other patients inside the US, such as through a Facebook group - Definitely illegal to purchase and mail any medication outside of a pharmacy in the US, and higher risk of the pills not being authentic especially if a high price is charged.
5) Having a US physician write a prescription to send to a Canadian pharmacy which will mail to the US - Technically illegal as the US physician would be writing for the medication using their US license, and Domperidone is not a legal prescription in the US. Physicians who have done this have had their licenses threatened for this action by the FDA.
